Jorge Borrego is the 2026 Republican nominee for Texas House District 118, an open South Bexar County seat. A former Texas House legislative director, he served as K-12 education policy director for the Texas Public Policy Foundation, where he worked on the state's Education Savings Account program and teacher- and parent-rights legislation; he has also worked in the nonprofit sector and as a realtor. The first in his family to graduate from college, he holds a mathematics degree from UTSA and a Master of Public Policy from Texas A&M. He won the March 2026 Republican primary with 52.5% and faces Democrat Kristian Carranza in November.

Kristian Carranza is the 2026 Democratic nominee for Texas House District 118, a South Bexar County battleground she also contested in 2024, losing narrowly to John Lujan. A San Antonio Southside native and community organizer for about 15 years, she has worked as a regional director for the Democratic National Committee, on campaigns for Hillary Clinton, Gina Ortiz Jones, and Wendy Davis, registered thousands of Texas voters, and led Affordable Care Act enrollment work. She ran unopposed in the March 2026 primary and faces Republican Jorge Borrego in November.
