John McKinney is a Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney of nearly three decades running for Los Angeles City Attorney. Currently the DA office's director of specialized prosecutions overseeing eight divisions, he has tried nearly 40 murder cases, including the prosecution of Nipsey Hussle's killer. Raised in Passaic, New Jersey, he worked trade and warehouse jobs before earning degrees from Rutgers University and UCLA School of Law. He is endorsed by DA Nathan Hochman and former DAs Steve Cooley and Jackie Lacey, and advanced to the November runoff against Marissa Roy with the second-place finish in the June 2026 primary.

Marissa Roy is a Deputy Attorney General in the California Department of Justice's consumer protection section and a candidate for Los Angeles City Attorney. A USC and Yale Law School graduate, she began her career in the LA City Attorney's Office leading wage-theft enforcement, and as outside counsel for Los Angeles County helped write more than a dozen briefs challenging Trump administration policies including the DACA rescission and attempts to defund sanctuary jurisdictions. She finished first in the June 2026 primary, eliminating incumbent Hydee Feldstein Soto, and faces John McKinney in the November runoff.
