John McKinney is a Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney of nearly three decades running for Los Angeles City Attorney. Currently the DA office's director of specialized prosecutions overseeing eight divisions, he has tried nearly 40 murder cases, including the prosecution of Nipsey Hussle's killer. Raised in Passaic, New Jersey, he worked trade and warehouse jobs before earning degrees from Rutgers University and UCLA School of Law. He is endorsed by DA Nathan Hochman and former DAs Steve Cooley and Jackie Lacey, and advanced to the November runoff against Marissa Roy with the second-place finish in the June 2026 primary.
