Constitutional Amendment 8 would write into the Missouri Constitution that county sheriffs must be chosen by election, and that an elected sheriff can be removed from office only through quo warranto — a court case, usually brought by a prosecutor or the attorney general, that tests whether an official may lawfully hold the office.
A YES vote means
A yes vote guarantees county sheriffs are elected and blocks removing an elected sheriff except by a quo warranto court case.
A NO vote means
A no vote leaves sheriff elections and removal rules to current law, without these constitutional protections.
