Estuardo Mazariegos is a community organizer and co-director of the Los Angeles chapter of the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE), running for City Council District 9. An immigrant and roughly 20-year organizer in South Los Angeles, he is running a corporate-donation-free campaign centered on tenant protections, eviction defense, and affordable-housing production, with backing from DSA-LA. He advanced to the November 2026 runoff with about 26% in the June primary against Jose Ugarte.

Jose Ugarte is a longtime South Los Angeles council aide running for City Council District 9, the seat being vacated by Curren Price. An immigrant from Oaxaca, Mexico, he has worked in the district's City Hall office since 2013, rising to deputy chief of staff for Councilmember Price with a focus on housing, public safety, and constituent services. He led the June 2026 primary with about 39% and faces community organizer Estuardo Mazariegos in the November runoff.
