Kent School District, Washington

My vote power

High

Election date

November 3, 2026

How do we calculate my vote power?

What goes into the rating: Representation: how much weight one vote carries here compared with a statewide vote — the smaller the district, the more each vote counts. Decisiveness: how likely this race is to be close, based on past results or current analyst ratings, plus the number of candidates.

Representation: High · 67 out of 100

This district is a small slice of its state, so each vote here carries much more weight than a vote in a statewide race. About 177,175 people live here.

Show the representation math

score = 50 + 50 × ln(state population ÷ this district's) ÷ ln(50,000) = 50 + 50 × ln(7,816,116 ÷ 177,175) ÷ ln(50,000) = 67.5, measured against a statewide vote in WA (grades: 66+ high, 33+ normal, otherwise low; a statewide race is the 50 baseline)

High representation → My vote power: High.

Ballot Measure

Supports: Public Education Quality

Kent schools want to replace a local property tax that is running out. The tax pays for school programs the state does not pay for. It would collect $104,700,000 in 2028, $111,100,000 in 2029, $115,700,000 in 2030 and $121,400,000 in 2031. The district estimates the rate at $1.95 per $1,000 of a property's assessed value in 2028. That estimated rate drops to $1.93 in 2029, $1.88 in 2030 and $1.84 in 2031. The money would pay for mental health counselors, safety staff, sports, electives, transportation, supplies and utilities.

A YES vote means

Property owners in the district pay this school tax for four more years. Collections start in 2028 and end in 2031. The district estimates a rate near $1.95 per $1,000 of assessed value at the start. Kent schools keep paying for counselors, safety staff, sports, electives and transportation.

A NO vote means

The current school levy ends after its last collection year, 2027, and nothing replaces it. Property owners stop paying this tax after 2027. The district says its remaining money would not cover these programs. It would have to cut them or find other funding.
