How do we calculate my vote power?
What determines the vote power rating for ballot measures: Representation: how much weight one vote carries here compared with a statewide vote — the smaller the district, the more each vote counts. You have more power in ballot measures because you vote directly on the policy.
Representation: High · 77 out of 100
This district is a small slice of its state, so each vote here carries much more weight than a vote in a statewide race. About 72,555 people live here.
Show the representation math
score = 50 + 50 × ln(state population ÷ this district's) ÷ ln(50,000) = 50 + 50 × ln(30,188,424 ÷ 72,555) ÷ ln(50,000) = 77.87, measured against a statewide vote in TX (grades: 66+ high, 55+ above average, 33+ average, otherwise low; a statewide race is the 50 baseline)
High representation + a direct vote on the policy → My vote power: High.
Ballot Measure
East Central ISD would raise its school tax rate by one hundredth of a cent, to 93.20 cents per $100 of home value, raising about $8.5 million a year more for teacher pay, security staff and student programs. The district says the average homeowner would pay under $1 more a year.
A YES vote means
The higher tax rate takes effect. East Central ISD gets about $8.5 million more a year for salaries, school safety staff and student programs, and the average homeowner pays under $1 more a year.
A NO vote means
The tax rate drops back to the level the district can set without a vote. East Central ISD does not get the extra $8.5 million a year for pay, safety staff and student programs.
