City of Brownsville Proposition A (Charter Amendment: Automatic Forfeiture of City Commission Office)

Brownsville city, Texas

My vote power

High

Election date

November 3, 2026

How do we calculate my vote power?

What goes into the rating: Representation: how much weight one vote carries here compared with a statewide vote — the smaller the district, the more each vote counts. Decisiveness: how likely this race is to be close, based on past results or current analyst ratings, plus the number of candidates.

Representation: High · 73 out of 100

This district is a small slice of its state, so each vote here carries much more weight than a vote in a statewide race. About 189,177 people live here.

Show the representation math

score = 50 + 50 × ln(state population ÷ this district's) ÷ ln(50,000) = 50 + 50 × ln(30,188,424 ÷ 189,177) ÷ ln(50,000) = 73.44, measured against a statewide vote in TX (grades: 66+ high, 33+ normal, otherwise low; a statewide race is the 50 baseline)

High representation → My vote power: High.

Ballot Measure

Supports: Anti-Corruption

Changes the Brownsville City Charter so a mayor or city commissioner loses their seat automatically in defined situations instead of only through a removal process. Under the amendment, an officeholder forfeits the office if they stop meeting any qualification for it set by the charter or state law, fail to meet the residency rules for the office, are convicted of a felony, or miss three consecutive regular City Commission meetings.

More about this measure

A YES vote means

A mayor or commissioner who loses a legal qualification, moves out of the required residence, is convicted of a felony, or misses three regular meetings in a row gives up the seat automatically, and the vacancy is filled under the charter's vacancy rules.

A NO vote means

The current charter language stays in place, so those situations do not by themselves end an officeholder's term and removal still depends on the existing forfeiture and recall procedures.
