  • Voted for Senate File 2200, which keeps what people say in a restorative justice meeting out of court. In these meetings a person who caused harm, the person harmed, and others talk about repairing the damage. Statements and papers from those meetings can no longer be used as evidence or demanded in a civil or criminal case. The law lists three exceptions: reports of abuse, warnings about a likely death, serious injury, or crime, and evidence that a licensed professional behaved badly. Evidence that exists on its own stays usable in court, and a court that ordered someone to attend can be told whether they did. Government records naming who took part are now private. The Minnesota House passed it 98-36, and it became law.
