  • Vetoed Shreveport Ordinance 179 of 2023 on January 18, 2024. The ordinance created an exception to the city's public-drinking ban inside the downtown Red River District. It let people carry alcohol on streets and sidewalks there in approved non-glass cups of 16 ounces or less. He objected that the boundary map could be read to include the Texas Street Bridge. He also wanted the police department and affected businesses consulted first. He wanted alcohol sales to stop at 2 a.m. rather than the 4 a.m. the council had set. The City Council overrode his veto 5 to 2 on January 23, 2024, and the ordinance took effect January 31.
