Johnny Garcia is the 2026 Democratic nominee for Texas' redrawn 35th Congressional District. A San Antonio Westside native and nearly two-decade veteran deputy of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, he has served as a hostage negotiator and is the office's public information officer. He worked construction jobs to put himself through St. Philip's College before entering law enforcement. Backed by the DCCC's Red to Blue program and the Blue Dog Coalition, he won the May 2026 Democratic runoff by about 27 points and faces Republican Carlos De La Cruz in November.
